Forest Adventure

4 05 2009

We have just returned from a fantastic weekend in the New Forest. It really is a beautiful place – not all forest, as there is a lot of heathland. Miles and miles of amazing colours, populated by wild horses and cattle who roam at will wherever they wish within this national park.

The roads that wind through the heathland have a speed limit of 40 miles an hour (64 km/h), because the wildlife pays no heed to oncoming traffic, wandering casually across the roads, and animal deaths are unfortunately not rare. Horses and donkeys also roam freely in villages and towns. We saw one woman being followed by a cheeky white pony in the car park in picturesque Burley.

The girls and I had a closer encounter to the lovely creatures on Saturday morning, as I had booked riding lessons for all three of us. We were all complete novices, and I have to say it was mostly motherly duty that got me signed up for the experience. Mr Angelfeet was not willing to get on a horse, but acted as official photographer.

How do I look? Relaxed? Comfortable? Confident?

Compare with the girls who instantly looked as if they had born on the back of a horse (which I assure you they were not).
