Room with a View

No chance at all to take photos today, as I was busy with school work in the morning and therapy work in the afternoon through to 7.30 p.m.

This was taken on Snowy Monday, a week ago, at Standen House. I can’t wait to go back, take a seat in this conservatory and admire the view.

(I’m really behind on looking at and commenting on all you other lovely people’s blogs, so forgive me. I will catch up, I promise. )

Earth, um, 45 minutes. It still counts. A bit.

We had our dear friends, L and M, round for a celebratory Chinese take-away (we’re about 6 weeks late celebrating L’s birthday in February, but the anticipation was worth it). I declared early on in the evening that I wanted to take part in Earth Hour 2008, scheduled for 8 til 9.

I got candles out and we started lighting them. L said she was able to continue knitting (yesterday’s image) in candlelight, although I was a bit concerned that the fluffy wool would somehow catch the flame, but I think she must be a seasoned candlight-knitter, because there was no inferno.

Jenny ran around at 8, turning the lights off. The timing was a bit tricky, as our meal was expected to arrive sometime after 8.30, and therefore Mr Angelfeet wanted to leave the porch light on for the driver. I pouted a bit about this, but decided that, hey, we were at least doing something. More significantly, it focused our minds and the children (well, Rosie at least) were aware of the significance of it.

We’ll do better tomorrow.

A bit out of focus. Which is how I feel today, with the weight of a migraine leaning on me.

It’ll be gone tomorrow. Hopefully.

Little Flowers

26 03 2008

I feel like I’ve known bsouth for much longer than I actually have, and I’m really glad of the circumstances that brought us together.

Today we met over cup of tea and a lemon slice. I got to cuddle both the girl and the boy, although the girl didn’t stay long on my lap, because she wanted to be nearer Mummy and the boy.

Dear Reader, I can assure you they are even more delightful in real life than they appear in blogland.

The boy was very accommodating with posing for pictures.

I under-estimated the light for these shots of the girl, but I think the blur adds something to these images.

Man at work

The Man is currently working on my laptop, trying to get the new wireless thingey to function, so I can’t get to my current pictures folder.

So here is my dear husband, this time last year, not working, but playing in only the way her Daddy can.

Spring

24 03 2008

We’ve had really mild days in the last month or so, and now it’s officially spring and it’s snowing.

img_0669.jpg

There’s a back story to today, but I’ve posted it on my (ir)regular blog, because I haven’t posted anything there in a while and it was threatening to divorce me.

We had hail as well today. The downpour lasted about 3 minutes and left this delightfully photographic gem on the car.

It’s snowing, so it must be Easter

23 03 2008

img_0604.jpg

Today, on Easter Sunday, we’ve had the closest to real snow that we’ve all year in our part of London. It didn’t settle, although at some point the flakes were big enough to start lodging in the crevices of the cars outside.

Nothing left now, except for the chill.

P.s. Interesting article at Times Online yesterday about the difficulties that photographers face when creating art beyond our own back yards.

Four seasons in one day

22 03 2008

img_0591.jpg

Today was spent doing sort-of chores. It was definitely an odd sort of day, with snow, fail, sleet and some rain blowing us along the streets. We’ve been in and out of a few music shops today and yesterday too. Hubby’s new amp (yesterday’s pic) has been inspiring him to give his electric guitars some TLC, and get his acoustic out. I have to say I admire and feel a little envious of his playing abilities. I know he’s been doing it for over 20 years, but I wish I had got a bit further than “She’ll be coming round the mountain when she comes” when I first learnt at primary school. I’m being a bit harsh on myself, because I did stick at piano, and did quite well, but I’d love to be competent at another instrument, preferably one I can sing along with. I know, I know, it’s just practice. And time.

Oh, and we had some sun as well.
